A recent study reveals a 23% pay discrepancy between personnel in the public service (i.e., the civil service, education, and health and social services), 72% of whom are women, and personnel in Crown corporations like Hydro-Québec, Loto-Québec and the Société des alcools du Québec, a majority of whom are men.

Rectifying the Pay Equity Act

On February 12, the government introduced a bill to amend the Pay Equity Act. It was forced to do so after a federal Supreme Court ruling quashed certain amendments to the act that were introduced in 2009, including those that removed any possibility of retroactive compensation in cases of discrimination.
