“Professionals” and union action: chalk and cheese?

Professional recognition: it’s time for a concrete gesture

At the time of this writing, 7,450 people had signed a petition launched on April 6 to demand that the government reimburse dues paid to professional orders. The signatories were reiterating arguments put forward by APTS president Andrée Poirier. Writing to Minister Christian Dubé on February 22, Poirier had asserted that in the context of a public health crisis, “it is inconceivable that we should force our members to pay out of their own pocket for the right to provide services for Quebecers.”

Contract talks: where are we headed?

Contract talks continue almost nine months after the end of our collective agreement. These negotiations were always going to be challenging, and COVID-19 made them even more complex. Between Zoom conferences and meetings at the Treasury Board, we caught two members of the APTS executive committee and asked them to tell us what’s happening. Emmanuel Breton is in charge of contract talks and Véronic Lapalme is in charge of mobilization.

An impassioned activist

The woman we elected president of the APTS at our Convention last November is very determined to boost our union’s visibility and influence, and is proud to do so. “I want the APTS to have the means to realize our goals, fully engage in public debates and take the initiative without hesitation. We have to create ties with other organizations and join forces to serve our common causes,” Andrée Poirier declared.

Combatting prejudice as a way to fight poverty

Since 2013, the APTS has actively supported the Christmas card campaign initiated by the anti-poverty collective, Collectif pour un Québec sans pauvreté. This December, we urge you to participate, not in a food drive, but in an awareness campaign to break down misconceptions and prejudice that undermine the lives of people living in poverty.

Local bargaining: where are we at?
